Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 September 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Aleks Bezjak, operating the product BetterPose (“we,” “us,” “our”), handles information in connection with the BetterPose desktop application and the website at betterpose.co. We are based in Slovenia (EU) and act as the data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. How BetterPose works — and why it sees so little

BetterPose is a macOS and Windows application that estimates your sitting posture using your computer’s webcam and an on-device AI model. All posture analysis runs locally on your device. Your webcam feed is processed in real time and discarded immediately after each frame is analysed.

No images, video frames, or other visual data from your camera are ever recorded, uploaded, transmitted to us, or shared with anyone. The posture model ships inside the app and needs no internet connection to analyse your posture.

3. Information we process

3.1 Purchase and billing information

When you buy a licence, our checkout and payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy, LLC), which acts as our Merchant of Record. This means Lemon Squeezy is the reseller and seller of record for your purchase: it collects the details needed to complete and tax the transaction (such as your name, email address, billing address, and payment method) and handles any applicable VAT. We do not receive or store full card numbers; card processing is handled by Lemon Squeezy and its payment providers in line with PCI-DSS. We receive limited order and licence information — such as your name, email, country, and order/licence details — to deliver your licence and provide support.

Legal basis: performance of a contract.

3.2 Licence and activation data

To deliver and protect your licence, we store your licence/activation code, its status, and — where seat limits apply — a device identifier generated when you first activate the app. This lets us honour the number of seats purchased and provide support.

Legal basis: performance of a contract; our legitimate interest in preventing licence abuse.

3.3 Posture data stays on your device

Your posture score, calibration baseline, history, and related metrics are stored locally on your device. We do not collect your posture history, your calibration baseline, or any individual posture reading.

Once a day the app sends a small anonymous usage summary — the number of minutes tracked, an average score, and a count of nudges — so we can tell whether BetterPose is actually helping people. It carries no identifier of any kind, so it cannot be linked back to you, to your licence, or to your other days. See 3.4 for who processes it.

3.4 Anonymous usage analytics

Both the app and this website use Aptabase — open-source, privacy-first analytics — to count things like page views, downloads, and daily app usage. Aptabase is cookieless and assigns no user identifier: events cannot be tied to a person, a device, or a session on another day, which is also why we cannot tell you how many individual people use BetterPose, only how often it is used. We use the EU Aptabase region, so this data stays in the EEA. No advertising, profiling, or cross-site tracking is involved, and no personal data is sent.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding how BetterPose is used and improving it. Because the data is anonymous and stored without cookies, no consent banner is required.

3.5 Free trial sign-up

Before you download the free trial, we ask for your email address. Providing it is required to download from our website. We store it together with the date of sign-up and your marketing choice, using Netlify, so we know who is trying BetterPose and can follow up with you about your trial (for example support or important updates about the app).

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in supporting trial users.

We only send you news and offers if you tick the optional box on the sign-up form. We keep a record of that choice and the wording you agreed to. You can withdraw your consent, or ask us to delete your email entirely, at any time by writing to aleks@betterpose.co.

Legal basis: your consent.

3.6 Website and support

If you contact us or book a call, we process the details you provide (such as name, email, and your message) to respond. Our website uses only essential cookies needed for it to function; we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Legal basis: legitimate interest and/or consent, as applicable.

3.7 Team and business customers

For organisations that license BetterPose for their teams, we process the administrator’s contact and billing details and the seat information needed to provision licences. Where an organisation provides employee identifiers (e.g., work emails) to assign seats, the organisation determines how that data is used and we process it to provide the service.

3.8 What we never process

To be explicit: we do not collect, receive, store, or have any access to images, video, or other visual data from your webcam. Posture analysis happens entirely on your device and is discarded immediately.

3.8 Business contacts we reach out to

Sometimes we contact businesses directly by email to introduce BetterPose — for example, companies whose teams might benefit from posture support. When we do, we process a business contact’s name, role, company, and work email address.

We get these details from publicly available business sources — public business registers (e.g. AJPES) and directories (e.g. Bizi, TIS, CompanyWall), or a company’s own published website — not from the person directly. We only use business contact details that a company has published as its own contact information.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in promoting BetterPose to relevant businesses (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Our use of published business email addresses for this also follows Article 226(6) of the Slovenian Electronic Communications Act (ZEKom-2).

You can object at any time — reply with “ODJAVA” (unsubscribe) or email aleks@betterpose.co, and we’ll remove you and won’t contact you again. We keep prospect details only until you object, or at most 12 months after our last contact, then delete them.

4. Your rights under the GDPR

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, and object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on it. To exercise any of these, contact us at aleks@betterpose.co.

You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. In Slovenia this is the Information Commissioner (Informacijski pooblaščenec, ip-rs.si).

5. How long we keep data

We keep purchase and licence records for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations, after which they are deleted or anonymised. Support messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your request. Trial sign-up emails are deleted 24 months after sign-up, or sooner if you ask; if you opted in to news and offers, we keep that email until you withdraw.

6. Sharing and processors

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share data only with providers that help us run BetterPose — Lemon Squeezy (checkout, payments, and Merchant-of-Record services), Netlify (website and application hosting), and Aptabase (anonymous usage analytics, EU region) — under agreements that limit them to processing it on our behalf. As Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy also acts as an independent controller for parts of the payment and tax processing; see its own privacy policy at lemonsqueezy.com.

7. International transfers

Some of our providers, including Lemon Squeezy, are based in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. See each provider’s data processing terms for details.

8. Children

BetterPose is not directed at children. We do not knowingly process personal data of anyone under the age of 15 (the age of digital consent in Slovenia).

9. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. Because posture analysis is on-device, the most sensitive data — your camera feed — never leaves your computer.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will post changes here with a new “last updated” date and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to notify you.
